If your answer is yes, there's now a major opportunity for you to cut down on energy costs and upgrade your home’s comfort. The Qalipu First Nation (QFN) Housing Division has announced the reopening of the “Home Energy Efficiency Initiative” starting on April 6, 2026. Community engagement sessions held by the QFN Housing Division across various communities in Newfoundland and Labrador are currently underway, providing an opportunity to learn more about the program and get help with your application. About the Home Energy Efficiency Initiative The Home Energy Efficiency Initiative (HEEI) program provides financial assistance to existing homeowners in Newfoundland and Labrador for the purchase and installation of heat pumps, aiming to lower home heating costs and reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions. While funding is limited, data collected throughout this initiative will be carefully analyzed to evaluate the need for similar programs in the future. The incentive amount is determined by factors such as whether you are a registered member of the Qalipu First Nation, being a current resident of Newfoundland and Labrador, whether you are a current beneficiary of other provincial rebate programs, your household income, and the amount of people living in your home. Other requirements also apply. General eligibility requirements for the Home Energy Efficiency Initiative: Applicant must be a registered member of Qalipu First Nation Applicant and/or Co-Applicant are required to be a current resident of Newfoundland and Labrador and residing in the home requesting assistance. Applicant MUST NOT have received assistance under the QFN Home Energy Efficiency Initiative, NRCan, Greener Homes Grant, or takeCHARGE NL to support the installation of a heat pump. Note that QFN housing staff may request additional information to support the application review process. Income-based eligibility requirements for the Home Energy Efficiency Initiative: Combined household income must not exceed: Number of Persons in the Household Combined Income Eligibility 1 person $53,550 or less 2 persons $93,107 or less 3 persons $127,014 or less 4 persons $155,897 or less 5+ persons $162,176 or less NOTE: If home ownership is in the name of a non-member spouse or partner (co-applicant), you may still submit your application with the necessary supporting documentation; however, you may be required to provide further documentation to support that you are a resident of the same household. What does the Home Energy Efficiency Initiative cover? With the Home Energy Efficiency Initiative, eligible homeowners can receive financial assistance to help cover the key costs that come with switching from oil-based or wood-based heating to an energy-efficient electric heat pump system.
